Anyone can make a good gravy with a base (chicken or beef bullion will do!), cornstarch, oil, some spices and a wire whisk.
Heat the water for your base to a boil and prepare it. Reduce heat to low while you mix the cornstarch with the oil until it is a smooth but flow-able mixture. Mix in your spices and use a spoon to taste the base (yes, blow on it to cool it) before you begin slowly adding the thickener. If it's right, stir in the mixture using the whisk to smooth it. As it heats, it should get thicker. When it's the way you like it, turn off the heat and serve it immediately.
Bon Appetit!
