Heartbreak, a good thing?

If I asked every single member of the site whether or not they'd had their heart broken at some time in their lives, chances are it'd be easier counting those who answered 'no' than those who said they had. Heartbreak feels awful doesn't it? It's literally like your heart is under so much actual physical strain that it just wants to give up on itself.

What happened after you'd had your heart snapped in two though? Of course you cried an ocean, listened to all the tragic love songs whose lyrics suddenly made sense and had a phase that seemed so bleak it felt like you had no future. Can you say that you're in a much better place now though? Do you agree that something as monumental as a heartbreak can make people become better, stronger people with more ambition and drive?

There's also the things you learn about future relationships after a split, you see where the previous relationship went wrong and want to get the next one right as well as knowing what you want from it as you've had the prior experience.

What do you think? Is heartbreak a bittersweet life lesson that everyone would benefit from having to deal with at least once?
