Short Version:
I Retired from a successful business. Intellectually curious, so I got a PhD in philosophy at 58. Love to be outdoors, hike and bicycle. Voracious reader. Very active… attend plays, concerts, lectures. Active traveler … Italy, Cuba and Chile recently. Humor is vital, and I make people laugh. I try to be kind, caring, generous. I’m a romantic and a very social person. Personal growth as well as mindfulness, kindness and gratefulness are important to me.
Long version:
I’m a native New Yorker who moved to CA 10 years ago. I owned 2 businesses in NY. One was a consulting company and the other invested in apartment buildings.
I was able to stop working fairly young and pursue a doctorate in philosophy. My concentration was in ethics, and this has allowed me to participate in some interesting volunteer work in my retirement. I am on the ethics committee at Kaiser Hospital, and sit on the the committee at Cal Berkeley that ensures ethical treatment of experimental subjects. I use my small business background by volunteering as CFO for a local journalism organization. I also do some volunteer professor gigs in which I focus on the aspects of philosophy that matter for everyday life.

So, that tells you a little bit about what I’ve done, but it doesn’t tell you much about who I am. The most important things to me are that I am a kind, generous, and loving person, who tries to make the world a better place. I am compassionate and a good listener. I value integrity and character, and consider myself, even in my 60’s to still be growing.
Here’s a problem with writing an online profile. One wants to paint the most appealing self-portrait, but doesn’t want to sound arrogant. Like you, I’ve read a lot of profiles of the opposite sex in which people outline what they are ‘looking for’. At the risk of sounding obnoxious, I’m going to list some of those attributes, and tell you why I might fit the bill.
High “EQ”: I’ve done my share of therapy, and I believe I have grown to have high emotional intelligence. I come drama free, and with minimal baggage.
Intelligent and Engaged: Besides having earned a doctorate in my 50’s I was a member of Mensa, so perhaps I’ll just let those things speak for themselves. But its not just about being smart. Intellectual curiousity is a defining characteristic for me. There is always more to learn and it keeps life interesting.
Sense of Humor: It doesn’t surprise me that this is probably the most frequently listed attribute. I like to laugh a lot, and laughing together with my partner is important for me. 95% of people think they have a better than average sense of humor, and I count myself among them. Very often in my interactions with others, I say things and make quips that generate laughter. I try to sprinkle every day with humor.
Financially Secure: I worked hard for many years to earn enough to get to the point where I didn’t need to worry about making money anymore. I’m fortunate and glad to be past that phase of my life.
A person of good character: This encompasses a lot. It means being honest, loyal, compassionate, empathetic, kind, generous, etc. I believe these are qualities that are worthwhile to cultivate in myself. Like you, I’m not perfect, but I believe life gives us plenty of opportunities to grow in this area
A good citizen of the world: I believe purpose in life can be found in trying to make the world a better place. To me this means volunteering my time to worthwhile causes, but also impacts every aspect of how I live.
Good Communicator: I work to be a good listener. Also, I am able to express my own feelings and thoughts. I want to be in a relationship where we can be completely honest and open.
