I have always pursued ambitious dreams with the statement at 18, unfit and overweight that I was going to become a Royal Marines Commando and would complete the gruelling 30 week course. I spent the next 2 years pounding the roads and hilly local terrain consistently 3 times a week and got to a stage where an ex Paratrooper I worked with suggested getting a Bergen, weighing it down with 40 kg in weight and going up into the Derbyshire Dales to embark on tough, hilly 9 mile yomps. I went onto complete the 4 Commando tests in 5 days at the first attempt.
