I think one thing that makes me different from most men, is that I spent the last 8 years of my now deceased mothers life taking care of her as her sole caretaker.
It was one of the most difficult things I have ever done, but also the most rewarding. I was blessed to be able to put everything on hold and devote those years to her. I made a promise to her as a teenager that she would never have to go to a nursing home if I could avoid it. In 2005 she called me on that and asked if she could move down here and live with me. So...I went up to the Great NW, and moved her down to Texas. I really did not know what I was getting into, being the male caretaker for my Mom, but it was wonderful to be able to spend those years with her no matter how cantankerous she became. She passed at 91.
