I am not so sure of the whole premise. I think it likely that the older one gets, the more fulfilled on gets one way or another. Otherwise, what the hell were you doing all those previous years if not developing towards some worthwhile goals?
I will admit that I have blossomed since the death of my wife, but not with anything I wasn't preparing for prior to that event. I did do the dating thing for a bit, but my wife was a hard act follow, at least in comparison to what I found in the market place at my age.
I would give anything to have her back. I was much happier then, though I have lots of friends now and all that, but these times would have been so much better with her, and she would have enjoyed this life now just as much if not more.
