I have relatively recently moved. It was amid COVID, so I never really met anyone. Not friends, not coworkers (working remotely), not even really neighbors (social distancing and ordering stuff online). It's been 4 years now that I haven't had any really static connections.
I think a site like this is as great a start as any, if not moreso because the whole gamegeek thing places us in a level of vulnerability that I don't think you would experience in traditional dating spaces.
