I feel like a lot of people go with a standard "I work in x, what do you do?", which I find boring, even though I passionately love my career. I say it's annoying because Americans are obsessed with work, and so many people define themselves by their jobs. There are so many things other than work to talk about and enjoy. Example: I live in the bay area, and no, I really don't give a crap about your computer-whatever start-up!
