THE ERMINE, an inhabitant of the northern parts of both hemispheres, like other northern species also assumes a pure-white coat in the winter period, except for the end of the tail, which remains black. Its fur is very valuable, being prized for its fineness and wonderful pure colour. The ermine resembles the weasel greatly, but it is somewhat twice larger and weighs about half a pound.
