Okay, everyone wants honesty, so here goes: I''m married, not so sure about staying that way. No, my wife isn''t a heartless ogre or anything like that, she''s a fairly pleasant woman that I DO love, but she''s driving me crazy. While it''s cliche to say she doesn''t understand me, it''s fair to say that I don''t understand her either. Or myself, for that matter. She''s become overly cautious and reserved, she''s frightened of any kind of change in her life. Nearly thirty years into our relationship, she has come to take for granted all of the little things that made it special, and she constantly questions and tests my love, though I have (at least, up ''till now) never done anything to cause her to question my commitment to our marriage. As I said, I DO love her, but everyone has their limits. And I''m slowly reaching mine. I''d like to go a whole day without a conversation about money. A day without hearing about how the world is conspiring to make us miserable. A day without constantly having to keep score, so as not to slight her by not paying the proper amount (or kind) of attention to her. Don''t get me wrong, I''m not shy about showing affection, about pampering a woman. I simply don''t want to be shown a chart at the end of the day, pointing out how and where my affection is not up to snuff! I want a day when every word I speak isn''t examined to determine if it can be twisted in some way into being considered a slight towards her. I am tiring of simply loving someone, I''d like to be IN love again. Is that a lot to ask?
Still with me after my previous rant? Gee, you must have a will of iron! Okay, who am I looking for? She would be intelligent, but not condescending, understanding that intelligence and knowledge do not always require a formal post secondary or post graduate education. She would reject gender, age, and ethnic-based stereotypes. She would have a wicked sense of humor, maybe a tad sarcastic at times, goofy at others, but never cruel. She would be strong and self confident, but be the type of girl who would not be too hard hearted to shed a tear if she accidentally hit a squirrel with her car. She would love children and animals, and not suffer lightly those who would do them harm. She would be careful about money, but understand that the occasional impromptu trip to New York is a necessary ingredient in keeping ones sanity. She would not need to be drop dead gorgeous, but be confident enough in her beauty to not hide under enough make up to sink a battleship. She would know the difference between love and passion, and understand the importance of both. Most of all, she would need to be able to see the big picture that life is finite, and the journey itself is every bit as important as the destination.
