Jesus said Since (if) you love me you will keep my commandments.
Jesus has no doubt about the love of his disciples and love is always rewarded. When we open ourselves up to love and to be loved two things happen- we can be hurt and we can be healed. By not loving we put a wall around ourselves and pretend we do not get hurt or that we don’t care. By loving, we leave ourselves open to risk being rejected or being accepted.
It is by loving we discover we are not alone. It is through love we recognize the Trinitarian power of God as Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier.
The absence of love results in the absence of a real relationship. The presence of love is experienced in a real relationship. It is through love we get to know ourselves, others and God. Love gives us the courage to share our differences of opinions. Love gives us the strength to reach beyond our cultural and other boundaries. Love opens pathways to God we never considered before.
We do not become fully human until we give ourselves to each other in complete love… We do not fine the meaning of life by ourselves alone- we fine it with another. We will never be fully happy and real until we let ourselves fall in love –either with another person or with God. I HOPE YOU CHOOSE BOTH. Love is the revelation of our deepest personal meaning, value, and identity… love, then, is a transforming power of almost mystical intensity, which endows the lovers with qualities and capacities they never dreamed they could possess.
